There are quite a few cheap construction bridges over river corssings in my neck of the wood, East Hertfordshire. They were fords, and in effect still are, but recent pedistrian footbridges have been put in place. These are generally concrete and metail, with not much thought to the design. A very utlitarian, agri-industry style. The sides of the river banks can be tempramental, and beneath these bridges there are repairs, shoring up the banks, that have taken place over the past, so many years, with different materials and engineering. They remind me of raised beaches on the seafront, factory floors where equipment has been taken away, and glimpses of early bridges.
